Something Pretty

I had some left over rings lying around and not wanting them to go to waste I made these little dreamcatchers. These ones are a bit girly but I'm planning to make some for boys rooms too!

How disappointing!

Well it's been a bit of a rough week this week with getting so sick I was unable to make it to The Handmade Markets on Saturday. I am pretty devastated as I had some new designs ready to go and it's just so much darn fun being there!

Anyway, no time to feel sorry for myself as I'm booked in for some markets leading up to Christmas including The Old Bus Depot Markets every Sunday until 13th December as well as the night market at Old Parliament House 5-9pm on the 4th December.

Will be posting some pictures of my new creations over the coming days, including my swallows - yay!!

New Markets at Old Parliament House

An exciting new night market will debut this Friday night at Old Parliament House during "Double Happiness" drinks, 5-9pm. They are called the Ginger Lane night markets and I am pleased to announce Melanie Swan Designs will be one of the stalls there! These markets will be held once a month on a Friday. It should be a lovely event - I suggest you take a look. For more information head to The Ginger Lane Facebook Page.

Butterflies for Spring

Hi there, just thought I'd share some butterfly shapes I've been making for a client's staircase. I'll have to take some photos when they're up but in the meantime they look fab flying up my studio wall!

New Shape!

Well, it's been a while coming but I've finally got a prototype for my new shape - a swallow. I've included a picture here on top of the gorgeous wallpaper I'll be using in my new range. Isn't it divine? I've been lusting over this wallpaper for ages so I'm thrilled to finally get my hands on some. Watch this space for some new creations!

Fabulous day at Handmade

What a fantastic day I had last Saturday at Canberra Handmade. There were so many fantastic handmade products to look at, yummy things to eat and so many people - it was a massive success!

Yarralumla Woolshed proved to be the perfect location with it's spacious rustic interior, loads of parking and leafy outside grounds. I took a (rather lame - sorry!) photo of my stall. It was lovely with the light streaming in from the windows.

I am so looking forward to the next Canberra Handmade Event in November. Although I think I'm going to have to get someone to help me so that I can leave my stall and do some of my own Christmas shopping.

Chiyogami overload

I am launching a new range of ring sets this Handmade Market and here is a sneak peek! I was going for colour overload this time. I'll be uploading them on my madeit and Etsy stores after the markets. I hope you love them!

2 weeks to go until The Handmade Market!!

It's only 2 weeks to go and I am really looking forward to it. Let's hope I get my act together in time. I'm still waiting on some supplies for some new designs so I am hoping it all comes together!
I've attached the invitation. There are so some fabulous new stallholders and the location is perfect. If you live in and around Canberra and love gorgeous handmade things then you MUST come!

New!

As you can see, I've been busy lately. These are a one off range of ring and disc sets I've put together using some beautiful paper I had left over from other projects. Flowers are the theme since it's almost spring - my favourite time of year.

I'm always trying to find ways to improve my photos. This lot isn't too bad I think. Always room for improvement though!

Inspiration

I get a lot of my inspiration form Interior Decoration Magazines and websites. One of my very, very favourite websites is Anthropologie. They have the most amazing home decor & fashion. I love their style, mixing vibrant colours and patterns - with a retro edge. One such item is their bedding range called Alessandra. Unfortunately, they have already sold out. I can still dream, admire and be inspired....

I love this wallpaper.....

I was reading a recent issue of Elle Decoration UK (my favourite magazine at the moment), came across this stunning wallpaper called 'Pip' by Brian Yates and fell in love. I was very dissappointed to find out you can't buy it from a retailer in Australia but a quick search online lead me to Kingdom Interiors. They not only ship to Australia but sent me some samples. Now that I've seen them in person I HAD to buy some so watch this space for some 'Pip' inspired creations......

Well, here it goes....

Hi there, and welcome to my very first post! I thought I'd better start off by introducing my work. I've included some pictures of my latest creation. It is inspired by my very good friend Tara. She loves pretty things, pink and fashion by Allanah Hill. I'm giving this to her for her birthday - which was a couple of weeks ago. Of course I forgot it so I hope she loves it and will forgive me....
